Build up your English : Section one

Section one
1.Form nouns from these words and than use these nouns in sentences that show their meaning clearly.
know, please, invite, repeat, destroy,timid, tender, lose, choose, arrive

2.Show clearly the use of each of these words:
who, whose, whom, who's, which, that, whoever, whomever, what, whatever
Who= Who refers to people. That and which refer to groups or things.
Whose= Possesive of 'who'
Whom= The objective case of who.
Who’s= Contraction of who is
Which= What particular one or ones of a number of things or people
That= The one, kind, or thing; something
Whoever= any person who; anyone that
Whomever= The objective case of whoever
What= Which thing or which particular one of many
Whatever= Everything or anything that, No matter what

3.What do these expressions mean? Explain them and then use them in sentences:
a. The black sheep of the family
Meaning: A worthless or disgraced member of a family.
We speak figuratively of the one black sheep that is the cause of sorrow in a family
b. To keep for a rainy day
Meaning= to reserve something, for future need.
I've saved a little money for a rainy day
c. To be in clover
Meaning= to live a carefree life of ease, comfort, or prosperity
Or, to be in a very pleasant situation
With the income from the family estate, she's in clover.
d. To burn one's boats.
to do something that makes it impossible for you to change your plans and go back to the situation you were in before
She didn't want to burn her boats by asking for a divorce
e. To blow your own trumpet
to tell other people how good and successful you are
I like the way Barry always blows his own horn

4.Complete these sentences with a word opposite in meaning to the one in italics:

h. We have a four seater car
i. We keep it in the garage.

(B) Write eight short sentences about the subject "The school I went to", and then combine those sentences into two long ones.

7. Complete these sentences by adding at least five words to each.

8. Use these phrases in suitable sentences.
